Whew! The weekend ReTreat is over and *I* had a great time and judging from the faces in the photos I have, so did everyone else!
We had 12 participants from near and far: Edmonton, Calgary, Kamloops, Vernon, Surrey, Victoria and Duncan
There were lots of amazing things done with copper. Some covers were worked and reworked. Different people came at the metal from different points of view and experiences, so it was really interesting. When you give everyone the same set of materials and a few techniques it's amazing to see what can happen. Everyone at the Retreat participated in everything that happened which was really lovely.
We began with Registration in the Murphy Bed Room (no, Nancy Q did not get closed up in it!) in the hotel with meet and greet and fruit and cheese....
Lori and Jim Wilson at Off-Tangent Artworks gave us a wonderful tour of their studio and each person received a little glass tealight holder as we left on Friday night. Lori has such a nice little torch for making glass bead, it's not a scary, noisy one. (No, no, no. I keep resisting that little diversion!)
A big thanks to Leanne Bishop of Ruby Dog's (and Collage Joy) for wonderful generous donations to the goody bags.
Thanks to Select Imports in Calgary for yummy papers for the goody bags! I carry many of Select Imports products on my website in the byhand Product pages.
Also thanks to the Port Alberni Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Info Centre for maps, pins and a pile of tourist information brochures.
A very special treat in each goody bag was a selection of lampwork glass beads from Susan Ewart (suzyqlampwork@shaw.ca).
Susan came and kept me organize, straightened out, focused and we worked like little beavers into the wee hours getting the Spa night ready, making sure workshop participants had what they needed and pre-saging other things we might need, not to mention getting my contribution to the goody bags completed!
The coffee pot and kettle are the most traveled items of the weekend. From the Registration room at the hotel to the workshop, to the spa night, back to the workshop. Did we remember the filters????? Whew!
Thanks to Nancy Q for picking Linda, from Edmonton, up at the airport on Friday morning and doing various runs for cups, napkins etc.
And thank you to Louise and Pat for taking Linda back to the airport!
Thanks to Sharon Hohmann of the Stamp Garden for welcoming the participants to her store on Saturday after class. She has had a fabulous little store adjacent to her home just outside Port Alberni for years. They have sold their home (they're now empty nesters) and she has temporarily closed the Stamp Garden and will open a storefront in town this fall. We squeaked in on the last weekend!
A Very Special
thanks to Sarah Kendall and Deb Miller for driving up from Victoria
on Saturday evening to present my first ever Sensé
Spa night. Boy, was that group ever cheeky after spending a day
arting together! And no one drank from their finger bowls... Weren't we
good?
If you'd like to know more about the Sensé
products used at the Spa evening, please visit my other website http://nourishment.usana.com
Saturday breakfast and lunch catering was by the Rootcellar in Port Alberni. Wonderful salads, bean dip, little wraps, little Nanaimo bars (celebrated by the three Albertans in the class!), cream puffs and more.
Thanks to the Coast Hospitality Inn for making things run smoothly from their end.
I sent everyone off with the Sensé Prelude Travel Pack so they could keep their skin beautiful in their travels. I think almost everyone managed to win a door prize - I had loads of them!
I enjoyed myself so much, I just might have to do this again.... Thanks so much to everyone who came. I love every minute of it! Your projects were fabulous!
Here are some photos for your enjoyment.
