For my soon-to-be-born baby I started a Prayer Flag Project. Sure you know those Tibetan prayer flags. I turned it into a piece of art, inspired by this blog: http://theprayerflagproject.blogspot.com
Using Quietfire Design rubberstamps, paints and some calligraphy, I very much enjoyed creating a piece to welcome the little new familiy member. More to come.

[Now I think that little baby arrived earlier than expected! I knew it was going to be close, but..... You can follow Ramona's blog here. Sometimes it's in English, but I do use Google Translate a lot. Her photos are fabulous! See her entry Prayer Flags 1 here and Prayer Flags 2 here]

Instructions

1. Cut and sew the base of the prayer flag. You don't need to be very accurate about it. It's important to have some kind of tunnel to pull a string through. You also can make a whole bunch of them in one go; because believe me, if you once start playing with those, it will be hard to stop!

Here's the measure I used:

2. Prepare your flag with the colour of your choice. Just play around with acrylics (with or without water). Let dry
3. While it dries you can write & stamp words on other pieces of fabrics you want to use for layers (in my case, I used the family stamp on a white circle of fabric)

4. when the background is dry, start decorating it with stamps and letters/pictures/transfers..whatever you desire. Let dry.

5. start sewing & decorating your different layers. Always make sure to have one layer completly dry before you add the next one (here it comes handy to work on more than one flag at once, so while the one dries you can decorate the other...)

6. Embellish and add final touches by sewing buttons, stitching and adding ribbons.

7. Hang and enjoy the prayers in the wind. Now I am curious what prayer flags you create!
