This simple, but elegant card incorporates a timeless technique with Unryu Paper.

Instructions for making the Fuzzy Heart Card

To create the strip on the left side of the card:

Set up your workspace as shown on the left. It's easy to use the O'lipfa ruler to measure off 2" of the unryu and get it straight!

If you need to protect your work surface from water, slip a Non-Stick Craft Sheet under the paper.

Fill your clean brush with water and run it down the side of the ruler.

Remove the ruler and allow the water to bleed into the paper.

While the paper is still very wet, gently pull the paper apart. This will create those wonderful fuzzy, fibery edges. The paper will only tear where it is wet. Some extra teasing with your fingernails can sometimes make even more fuzzies. (Note that not all handmade papers will give you really wonderful fuzzies!)

To make the heart:

Take your wet brush and draw the heart shape. Again, allow the water to bleed into the paper. Tear out the heart. This will require more finesse than just tearing a straight line. Protect the "arches" of the heart with a finger or two while you tear with the other hand.

Sometimes I get too much water on the paper and the arches of the heart disappear. If that happens, just use another part of the paper while the boo-boo dries back to its normal surface.

Pull the heart out!

Oh, look! You also have a piece of paper with the heart removed. More potential for another card!

{If you want to create a more complex design with this technique, sometimes it doesn't work - but try drawing a template, like the heart, on a Transparency with a waterproof marker. Slip the Transparency template under the Unryu and trace the template with your wet brush. Not only do you have a template, you protect the surface underneath!}

Use a gluestick to attach the torn Unryu. Gluestick glue is a drier glue and won't soak through the paper in patches. If you leave the edges unglued, the fuzzies become 3D!

Stamp "Love"! (or any other of the Life Journey Word stamps!)

Give it to your sweetie!
